Communicating about the LHC

LHC Communication Strategy

STFC is sponsoring a four year programme, in partnership with the UK physics' community, that will provide a broad and robust framework of initiatives that seek to engage the public with the LHC project. This programme is described in a Communications Strategy Document, which is available as a pdf file (145kb).

Progress reports

Regular updates on LHC-related communications activities will be posted on this website to keep the community up-to-date with recent and planned activities and events (word 49Kb) (pdf 63Kb).

LHC-related UK outreach activities

A Powerpoint presentation (ppt 7.4Mb) summarising current LHC-related outreach activities. Made by the UK LHC Communications Manager to the IOP HEPP Divisional Conference in April 2008.

Evaluation of the Big Bang exhibit in the Antenna Gallery of the Science Museum

STFC commissioned an independent evaluation of the Big Bang exhibit. A summary of the report (word 285Kb, pdf 131Kb) and the full report (ppt 5.9Mb, pdf 3.9Mb) are available.

Understanding our audience

A study was conducted in summer 2006, by People Science and Policy, to assess the understanding and perception of physics (especially particle physics) among a representative cross section of the general public, teachers and school students. The study contains many useful recommendations and insights into how to best engage these audiences, their areas of interest and concern. The results of the study are informing the development of the LHC Communications Strategy and associated projects. The report, summary and appendices can be accessed via the links below:
